29 / 09 / 2006

notice the day of the month is before the month? thats how they do it in France. La Loire is NOT the same river as Le Loir. Also, at the grocery store you have to bring your own plastic bags or buy them. They don't have peanut butter here. If you are in Paris and you want to by metro tickets, don't just ask for 'un carnet' or else they'll say 'un carnet de quoi?' just to burn you. un carnet de metro instead of un carnet de timbres (stamps).

I went to Paris to visit my old school mate Tom Lemoigne. He looked the same as before, and we got along just like old times. His lively mum Mel put me up for a couple of nights, and we all enjoyed going to museum tokyo to celebrate Mel's retirement. They had some interesting exhibits there including falling bottles, a manaquin banging its head against the wall, and a video of a renegade motorcyclist who goes around the peripherique in 9 minutes.

I haven't started work yet. My first orientation day is on the third of october. I'm getting settled into Blois. I've started reading Vingt Mille Lieues sous les Mers by Jules Vernes.
Last night someone asked me for directions to 'Le Chateau', and I've done my first load of laundry!

The cathedral in Blois

Setptember

OK- so this is the grand opening. I think that I will actually be directing people to this site now. It is already Setptember twelfth and I leave for France in just six days. I have started making lists of what to take with me and I have a bit of shopping still to do.
I finished up my last day of work at N.G. and said good bye to my friends at the Dae Do Sah and All Beings Abode Zendo. I have my last soccer game tonight.
In the meanwhile since my last post, I have set up to rent an apartment in a building reserved for foreign study abroad and teaching assistants like me.

Thanks to everyone who has been helping me bring everything together. It's going to be a fun year.
let see...
